Home: a collaborative photobook with words
The book features 38 black and white and colour images from talented photographers Alex Wesche, Mali Davies and Mick Houghton. The images are supported by very personal words from author Jeff Young, whose poignant words will resound with everyone. We are thrilled that the Children’s Laureate, Frank Cottrell-Boyce has been able to write the foreword. All of the proceeds from the book will be donated to the Paper Cup Project – a Liverpool-based charity which supports people experiencing homelessness. So, if you have any interest please read on and give serious consideration to making a pre-order and supporting such a worthwhile charity.

Home
Back in the summer of 2023 we were lucky enough to attract Alex, Mali and Mick to work on a new project, Home. We asked each to make around 20 images over a three month period with a view to 36 of them going in a final book, ideally balanced between the photographers. Our only stipulation was that the images should:
Be taken from areas very close to home (ideally within a mile) and certainly involve little transport
Be taken in areas that we might normally just pass by
Have a focus on the natural environment.
We sent a hard copy of the images and sequence to author Jeff Young to write some words for us and tie the whole thing together. We want the book to serve as an inspiration for photographers to look again at areas that they pass by every day and start to think about what possibilities they offer.

About the Contributors
Photographs by:
Alexandra Wesche lives in Central Germany. Photography is her way of connecting with the world around her and for restoring energy. Finding overlooked views and little spots of wilderness on local paths and in nearby woodlands has been her preferred approach for many years. She loves to observe the slow changes to familiar areas due to seasonal and climate influences as well as the changes in herself that are gradually mirrored in the photography. Thus, responding to this theme was a natural choice. For in these kind of surroundings she really feels at home.
Mali Davies first used a camera in 1981, capturing family moments in Kodak colour slides. In college, shooting Ilford HP5 400 was exhilarating for him and even after 44 years and now shooting in digital that excitement remains. Mali felt that being chosen for this project was magic but found creating from a brief to be challenging. He spent late nights refining ideas and striving to make each photograph meaningful. For him photography has to have meaning as it is all about creating art, seeing nature, the streets, the people and connecting meaning in your own way. Photography, YouTube, podcasts are all a part of that shared experience.
Mick Houghton got into photography through a love of fell walking and wanting to capture the beauty of our amazing countryside and wild places. He likes to capture what he sees as he wanders through an area, but now prefers the more intimate side of a scene. He likes minimal, moody, often abstract imagery and tries to capture what others might not see. He tries to look for lines, shapes and patterns in an image. This project appealed to him as he was already capturing images of his local area on daily walks with his dog. It actually opened his eyes even more as he started to see scenes within scenes, particularly in the mundane. Great light is a real bonus, but it’s not always a necessity to produce a beautiful photograph.
